Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Students, as aspiring district leaders, will assume the responsibilities and accountability of administrators over a two-semester internship experience. Students will be required to be in the field undertaking a variety of supervised activities as district leaders with 110 hours of fieldwork beyond current school responsibilities. (between 0806-720 and 721).

Learning Goals:   V.. Course RequirementsInterns must have a completed application signed by a New York State certified administrator who will be acting as a supervisor in order to continue in the program. An intern will not be allowed to continue in the internship unless this application is submitted and approved.The intern is required to perform at least one educational administrative task for each of the following categories:A. Supervision and School Management - responsibilities involving staff selection, evaluation, and support of school personnel and functions including professional and staff development as well as participating in overseeing organizational and school functions. The intern should demonstrate good managerial functions of time management, which encompass skills in planning, organizing, motivating, leading, and evaluating.B. Operations/Oversight of a School Budget – participating in forecasts, projections and monitoring of school funds.C. Participation/Observation of a school leadership team and participating in leadership and professional meetings and conferences.D. Curriculum and Instruction - participating in curriculum development and modifications.E. Pupil Personnel Services – involvement in student related functions including extra-curricular student activities.F. School Plant and Safety - insuring efficient building operations and safety programs.G. Student Attendance – monitoring school attendanceH. Evaluation – defining and using standardized assessment protocols.I. Technology in a School/Administrative Setting – determining computer applications for the school.J. Public Relations/Community Relations/PTA/School Board Meetings – interacting with the stakeholders of the school (school board, parents, business and community personnel) to insure community identification.K. Contracts and Regulations – assessing how contracts/regulations affect a school’s functioning.L. Prepare a Proposal/Grant – exploring opportunities for grants.M. Act in a leadership capacity.N. Demonstrate that the intern understands the school and school systems – its personnel, strengths, functions, weaknesses, stakeholders, and students.O. Completion of a Project that will help the school or district.VI. Weekly Reflections and SummaryThe administrative internship is an active participating practical experience as well as a reflective practical “on the job” experience for would be administrators.
