Course Work• Class Participation (10%)Please come to class prepared to discuss the readings and assignments. Notify me in advance if you plan to miss a class. Two are more absences may result in a lower grade.Participation in Moodle online discussions is expected each week. • Personal Narrative about Literature (10%)Write a personal narrative about how literature has affected your life. You may choose to focus on a particular work, a writer, or a genre (e.g., science fiction.) or you may create an altered book out of a book of importance for you. (1-2 pages.)• Graphic Novel Trailer (20%)In groups, you will research and select a graphic novel for discussion As a group you will create a video “trailer” for the book that demonstrates your understanding of the text and communicates effectively. • Genre or Theme Study (30%)Choose a genre or literary theme relevant to your teaching interests and explore books, films, or new media that would be appropriate for use in your classroom. You will select a minimum of twelve resources: novels, films, songs, websites, music videos, blogs along with a “classic” text or two. Provide a two paragraph to one-page analysis of each work chosen. Examples of themes would include heroines in science fiction, representation of athletes in young adult fiction, the role of Latinas in current teen fiction.
