Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Designed to: (1) define, specify, and measure behaviors recognized as necessary in the special child's repertoire; (2) equip teachers with behavior change principles; (3) provide a humanistic behavior modification approach and; (4) give practice in application of learning principles in effecting beneficial change to student's academic study and social behaviors.

Learning Goals:   B. PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES – based on the 6 goals of the Conceptual Framework1. Best Practices-•Students will gain an understanding of teaching as an art and have basic understanding of federal and State Law, and Regulations.•Students will gain an understanding of the changing structure of American Society and willexamine different models of classroom management.•Students will become familiar with various behavior and cognitive assessments.•Students will learn to assess and analyze the function of behaviors and to implement behavior intervention plans.•Students will examine the role of informal observation in assessing student behavior.2. Personal Critique-•Students will develop the practice of Self- reflection.•Students will examine Core beliefs, Assumptions and Expectations of classroom management.3. Social Justice-•Students will become familiar with how to design and share (1) strategies, (2) techniques and (3)activities for managing behavior.4. Diversity Awareness-•Students will appreciate and understand the impact of family dynamics, cultural influences, class and gender on behavior.•Students will become familiar with strategies that aid instruction.5. Wellness•Students will become familiar with strategies to help students with special needs in managing theclassroom.6. Conventions-•Students will become familiar with, design, and share (1) strategies, (2) techniques and (3) activities formanaging behavior•Students will become familiar with ways to modify curriculum, and use of different methods andmaterials, in order to design instruction and develop lessons to meet the needs of exceptional students.C.
