Description: |
Study the early identification of infants and young children with developmental disabilities; observation, screening and assessment strategies; evaluation of measurement tools with a focus on infant through early primary developmental evaluation. Analyze results from multiple sources, formal report writing, effective parent conferencing, evaluating individual progress. Field experience required. |

Course Goals and Objectives: a. To provide a graduate level introduction to Early Childhood Identification, Observation and Evaluation for infants and young children with special needs (SOE Core Values: Scholarship, Social Justice, Inclusive Community, Wellness; CEC Standards: 1,2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10).b. To teach specific strategies for detailed observation and information-gathering to determine developmental status and functioning level in multiple contexts. To review published instruments and their intended use, along with research findings on the relative efficacy of these measures. To learn multiple recording techniques for various circumstances in order to track progress and analyze developmental patterns and trends.
