Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Examine the philosophy, principles, organization, and administration of school health programs and policies. Students assess a school health program or policy, identify protective and risk factors, propose evidence-based changes and develop an advocacy strategy for proposed changes.

Learning Goals:   Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:Scholarship:1. assess the state of a school’s health program in a school of choice OR2. propose, implement and evaluate interventions that address a health concern or problem at school OR3. implement a research project that was proposed in HED 602: Research and Technology in Health EducationReflective Practice:1. review the health status of US students and how it affects school performance.2. analyze problems, barriers, concerns related to implementation of CSHP.Wellness:1. discuss the components of the CSHP, how they work, key personnel, resources and collaborative relationships involved.2. develop and present a project that promotes coordinated school health program and/or any of its components.
