Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

This course is designed to prepare individuals to meet the needs of most emergency situations when temporary first aid care is necessary. It is designed to develop the critical knowledge and skills that may enhance sound personal judgment in dealing with accidents and common illnesses.

Learning Goals:   1. Control an accident scene to prevent further injury.2. Gain access to victims in the easiest and safest ways possible3. Open a victim’s airway.4. Perform rescue breathing for an Adult/Child/Infant5. Perform Adult/Child/Infant CPR.6. Control bleeding by direct pressure, elevation, pressure points, and tourniquets.7. Perform basic dressing and bandaging techniques.8. Detect and care for Shock.9. Detect and care for soft-tissue and internal injuries.10. Detect and care for poisoning, including poisoning by alcohol and drugs.
