Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

The students will learn the foundations of sports, such as Soccer,Basketball,Volleyball and Field Hockey in physical education. The course includes selecting teaching skills and progressions, game modifications, instructional cues,feedback,and assessment for Pre-K through high school students, with varying levels of ability.

Learning Goals:   • Students will: identify critical components of proficient movement in a variety of fundamental and more sport-specific motor skills in basketball, soccer, field hockey, and volleyball. Students will also be able to observe a peer’s performance, detect errors, and suggest corrections for more success.• prepare and teach a lesson to peers demonstrating a practical sequence of tasks in a skill progression for an assigned team sport game, utilizing correct teaching cues and practice strategies similar to differentiated lessons in elementary or secondary physical education classes. Students will also write a reflection paper identifying strengths and areas for improvement based on their peer teaching experience.• utilize professional resources to identify and/or create an electronic collection of practice activities, learning experiences, teaching cues, and lead-up activities related to becoming more proficient in selected invasion games.• understand and be able to explain the rules, traditions and conventions of selected invasion games.• be able to utilize technology, including video skill analysis to correct and enhance skill and strategy performance of invasion games.• be able to demonstrate skill and game play techniques for each sport proficiently through a standardized performance assessment (e.g., New York State’s PE Profile assessment tool). • demonstrate appropriate professional behaviors as assessed through the required School of Education Dispositions Rubric, or other standardized rubric selected by department faculty for professional dispositions.
