| Description: |
Students will examine the dynamic interaction among neurological, cognitive, perceptual-motor and social development as they relate to normal and abnormal motor development and impact developmental delays. Emphasis is on the application of motor development concepts through analysis of age-appropriate movement experiences and movement behaviors of children. |
| Learning Goals: |
1. Students will be able to discuss the premise of inclusion philosophy and the impact on teaching physical education to students with sensory disabilities. 2. Students will be able to identify characteristics of various conditions associated with sensory impairments (visual and hearing).3. Students will be able to identify characteristics and purposes of assessment used in evaluating the motor performance of students with sensory impairment. 4. Through awareness assignments, students will develop a better understanding of challenges individuals with sensory impairments experience in daily living.5. Students will develop an understanding of Deaf Culture. 6. Students will be able to apply knowledge of the characteristics, considerations, and movement abilities of common impairments to modify games/activities and meet the needs, limitations, and capacities of students with sensory impairment. 7. Students will be able to apply a variety of principles, teaching methods, and techniques to modify commercial games/activities in order to create inclusive activities and teaching environments in physical education. 8. Through critical thinking assignments, peer teaching and research paper, students will be able demonstrate a thorough understanding of visual and hearing impairments, implementation of strategies and reflection on why it is important for them as educators. *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
