The purpose of this class is to acquaint students with the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. A variety of communication impairments are discussed. Assessment and intervention techniques for individuals with communication impairments are also discussed. Field trips and invited speakers offer students exposure. Collaboration with other professionals is explored. |

COURSE OBJECTIVES/PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES Upon completion of this course, students will be able to : 1. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology (ASHA III-H)2. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms (ASHA III-B).3. Compare and contrast the main characteristics of the different types of communication disorders (ASHA III-C). 4. Describe principles of evidence-based practice (ASHA III-F).5.
