Description: |
Examine the effects of hearing loss, noise, and reverberation on the process of auditory (and auditory-visual) speech perception; amplification selection (including cochlear implants) and the benefits of assistive listening devices and sensory aids; and the Deaf and Deaf Culture, emphasizing auditory approaches to aural (re)habilitative assessment and intervention. |
Learning Goals: |
At the end of the course, students will be able to:1. recognize the impact of hearing loss across the age span on psychosocial and speech/language development 2. identify various assistive listening technologies/methods [such as ALDs, cochlear implant, HAs, and ASL] and their appropriate application to the treatment / habilitation / rehabilitation of hearing loss3. identify the instruments and procedures for screening hearing disorder, hearing impairment, hearing disability and hearing handicap 4. describe the principals/procedures/value of using self-assessment questionnaires 5. analyze clinical cases and make appropriate recommendations6. recognize the essential role of counseling in audiology *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
