Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Examine the effects of hearing loss, noise, and reverberation on the process of auditory (and auditory-visual) speech perception; amplification selection (including cochlear implants) and the benefits of assistive listening devices and sensory aids; and the Deaf and Deaf Culture, emphasizing auditory approaches to aural (re)habilitative assessment and intervention.

Learning Goals:   At the end of the course, students will be able to:1. recognize the impact of hearing loss across the age span on psychosocial and speech/language development 2. identify various assistive listening technologies/methods [such as ALDs, cochlear implant, HAs, and ASL] and their appropriate application to the treatment / habilitation / rehabilitation of hearing loss3. identify the instruments and procedures for screening hearing disorder, hearing impairment, hearing disability and hearing handicap 4. describe the principals/procedures/value of using self-assessment questionnaires 5. analyze clinical cases and make appropriate recommendations6. recognize the essential role of counseling in audiology
