Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

Appreciation of the diversity of speech and language disorders across the lifespan, and the relationship of cultural factors to communication and speech and language disorders. Identify symptoms and behaviors associated with specific speech and language disorders and prepare to screen and to make appropriate referrals for more comprehensive evaluations.

Learning Goals:   Performance OutcomesAt the end of the course, students will be able to:1. Identify etiologies of speech and language disorders2. Describe symptoms and behaviors associated with speech and language disorders that require referrals to appropriate agents3. Identify appropriate screening tools for specific speech and language disorders4. Describe the relationship of cultural factors to communication and speech and language disorders across the lifespan 5. Identify state and federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to education law and rights of the disabled and outline the IFSP and IEP processes6. Describe classroom modifications, use of FM and preparation of a management plan 7. Describe the team approach across disciplines and the referral process
