This course will establish for students a theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of the vestibular system, and its objective diagnosis via electronystagmography (ENG). |
Learning Goals: |
At the end of the course, students will be able to:1. identify anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system2. recognize disorders of the peripheral and central vestibular systems and how they manifest and diagnosed via V/ENG 3. conduct case history and dizziness assessment scales4. perform V/ENG tests, including calibration, application of electrodes/goggles, saccadic, gaze, optokinetic, tracking, hallpike, static positional, bithermal air-caloric tests 5. identify potential hazards to patients in V/ENG procedure6. interpret V/ENG test results including artifacts that may confound results7. provide counseling to patients on vestibular test outcomes and referral to other professionals *The learning goals displayed here are those for one section of this course as offered in a recent semester, and are provided for the purpose of information only.
