Courses may be offered in one of the following modalities:

  • Traditional in-person courses (0–29 percent of coursework is delivered online, the majority being offered in person.)
  • Hybrid/blended courses (30–79 percent of coursework is delivered online.)
  • Online courses (100 percent of coursework is delivered online, either synchronously on a designated day and time or asynchronously as a deadline-driven course.)
  • Hyflex (Students will be assigned to attend in-person or live streamed sessions as a reduced-size cohort on a rotating basis; live sessions are also recorded, offering students the option to participate synchronously or view asynchronously as needed.)

If you are enrolled in courses delivered in traditional or hybrid modalities, you will be expected to attend face-to-face instruction as scheduled.

Description:

This course will establish for students a theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of the vestibular system, and its objective diagnosis via electronystagmography (ENG).

Learning Goals:   At the end of the course, students will be able to:1. identify anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system2. recognize disorders of the peripheral and central vestibular systems and how they manifest and diagnosed via V/ENG 3. conduct case history and dizziness assessment scales4. perform V/ENG tests, including calibration, application of electrodes/goggles, saccadic, gaze, optokinetic, tracking, hallpike, static positional, bithermal air-caloric tests 5. identify potential hazards to patients in V/ENG procedure6. interpret V/ENG test results including artifacts that may confound results7. provide counseling to patients on vestibular test outcomes and referral to other professionals
